At approximately 9:30 a.m. this morning, March 14, 2018, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office received information regarding a potential social media threat at Righetti High School in Santa Maria.

Meeting the community's mental health and spiritual and emotional wellness in response to the Thomas Fire and 1/9 Debris Flow is the goal of a newly-established Community Wellness Team. Led by the Santa Barbara County's Department of Behavioral Wellness, a continuum of services is available to meet the unique needs of individuals impacted by the collective and individual trauma experienced in the region.

As a result of nine college-aged males who suffered overdose symptoms on March 1, 2018 at an Isla Vista residence and were transported to the hospital, the Sheriff's Special Investigations Bureau (SIB) detectives initiated an investigation to identify the person(s) responsible for providing the drugs.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, in consultation with fire agencies and other public safety officials, has announced that effective immediately (10:30 a.m. today, March 13), Mandatory Evacuation Orders are lifted for all areas.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, in consultation with National Weather Service and other public safety officials, has issued a Mandatory Evacuation Order effective today (Monday) for individuals in Extreme Risk (red) areas near the Thomas, Sherpa, and Whittier burn areas due to a rapidly approaching winter storm. Individuals must be out of the evacuation area by 8 p.m. tonight

Santa Barbara County is waiving day-use entry fees at Cachuma Lake Recreation Area for residents impacted by the Thomas Fire and subsequent 1/9 debris flow. On Saturday, March 24 and 31, the day-use entry fee of $10 per car will be waived at the Cachuma Lake Recreation entry gate. Proof of residency will be required for each vehicle via valid identification or utility bill.

Lessons learned from recent storms are helping Santa Barbara County prepare for upcoming rain events, including refining evacuation plans for the Extreme and High Risk areas. In addition, the online interactive Debris Flow Risk Map now shows changes to the risk areas from Extreme Risk to High Risk in the city of Carpinteria based on that city's staff analysis.
