Continuing Education Requirements For Pest Control Certificate Holders and Licensees

Private Applicator | Qualified Applicator License/Certificate| Gardener QAC | Pilot | Advisor | Dealer | Broker | Structural PCO | Field Rep

Pest control certificate and license holders can maintain their certificate or license by attending approved instruction in pest management topics. Department approved instruction is provided through both public and private sources. Public sources include: community and state colleges, universities, U.C. Cooperative Extension Service, and the County Agricultural Commissioner's Office. Private sources include product vendors, professional organizations and private businesses specializing in pest management training.

Licensees and certificate holders are required to maintain a record of the name of the instructor or sponsoring organization, title, location, and identification code of the course, for a period of 3 years

Following, are the amounts of continuing education hours required for maintenance of a pest control license or certificate. In all cases instruction refers to courses which have been approved by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.

Private Applicator Certificate: Within each 3 year renewal period, 6 hours of instruction of which 2 must pertain to pesticide laws and regulations.

Qualified Applicator License: Within each 2 year renewal period, 20 hours of instruction of which 4 hours must pertain to pesticide laws and regulations.

Qualified Applicator Certificate: Within each 2 year renewal period, 20 hours of instruction of which 4 must pertain to pesticide laws and regulations.

Qualified Applicator Certificate or License holders with only the Landscape Maintenance Pest Control Category, (Category B), need 8 hours of instruction of which 2 must pertain to pesticide laws and regulations. The certificate or license holder must be employed by or managing a Maintenance Gardener Pest Control Business License
 
Qualified Applicator Certificate Holders with only the Seed Treatment Pest Control Category, (Category H), need 4 hours of instruction of which 2 must pertain to pesticide laws and regulations.

Agricultural Pest Control Advisor: Within each 2 year renewal period, 40 hours of instruction of which 4 hours must pertain to pesticide laws and regulations.

Pest Control Aircraft Pilot Certificate: Within each 2 year renewal period, 20 hours of instruction of which 4 hours must pertain to pesticide laws and regulation and 4 must pertain to application techniques and equipment.

Pest Control Dealer Designated Agent License: No continuing education.

Pesticide Broker License: No continuing education.

Structural Pest Control Operator: Within each 3 year renewal period an operator licensed in 1 branch of pest control must complete 30 hours of continuing education, in 2 branches must complete 36 hours, or in 3 branches must complete 42 hours. In each case 6 of the hours must pertain to a technical subject directly related to each branch held by the Licensee.

Structural Pest Control Field Representative License: Within each 3 year renewal period, requirements are the same as for Structural Pest Control Operator. See above.
