Santa Barbara County Enterprise Geographic Information
System (GIS)
Many features of interest to local government including roads,
zoning, property lines, political jurisdictions, utilities or the
location of an emergency call are geographically based and therefore
can be located, inventoried and viewed in new ways using geographic
information system (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS) technology. Utilization
of user-friendly, web-based interactive maps and self-service applications
increases constituent satisfaction and helps organizations save
time and costs associated with accessing county information. The
County Enterprise GIS web-based technology can grow to meet service
needs of internal and external clients and provide 24 hour public
service.
Newly acquired County GIS staff and resources will help address
the challenges of 21st-century public service. From financial management,
human resources and procurement applications to performance management
and services automation, GIS technology will position the County
of Santa Barbara to optimize performance while maximizing
the use of business data for enhanced decision making.
A fully integrated County Enterprise GIS will extend the concept
of eGIS interoperability and integration beyond just spatial data
and technology and create new value for government by leveraging
the power of place and analytics in support of decision-making,
science, governance, and operations.
