Welcome to the Santa Barbara County Redevelopment Agency website.
In 1990 the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors established the Redevelopment Agency of the County of Santa Barbara and created the Isla Vista Project Area. The Redevelopment Agency is dedicated to the revitalization of the Isla Vista Project Area through partnerships with the community and local businesses. The Agency’s primary goals include creating affordable housing, expanding local businesses, protecting open spaces, and improving public infrastructure.
Today, the Redevelopment Agency focuses on three general project types:
- Infrastructure – Constructing projects such as downtown parking lots, streetscape improvements, and sidewalk projects.
- Public/Private Partnerships – Establishing partnerships with local property owners and regional developers to construct housing and commercial projects in Isla Vista.
- Policy and Regulation Revisions – Changing County regulations to incentivize private sector reinvestment in the community.
