  • Santa Barbara County Wins Award for Excellence in Solid Waste Management
    The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) announced on Monday that the County of Santa Barbara's Department of Public Works Resource Recovery & Waste Management Division (RRWMD) has been named the winner of the SWANA Silver Excellence Award in the Integrated Solid Waste Management System category. The award will be presented at SWANA's annual conference, WASTECON®, on Tuesday, September 26, in Baltimore, Maryland. Read press release.

  • First 5 Santa Barbara County and Fighting Back Santa Maria Valley are hosting a community town hall and panel discussion focused on reducing youth violence by supporting children and families in the early years of life. See the flyer (español).  Experts in early childhood development and law enforcement will discuss strategies to support families and children prenatal through age five, and how the early years are so critical to every child's success in their later education and life. A complimentary casual dinner will be offered, as well as child care and Spanish language interpretation services.

  • The public is invited to attend a meeting in Carpinteria to provide input to the Ad Hoc Committee of the Board of Supervisors and ask questions regarding the regulation of medical and recreational cannabis. 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017.  See the media release and flyer for more information.  County Planning and Development staff will give an update on progress of the Cannabis Land Use and Licensing Program to the County Planning Commission in Santa Maria on September 13.   • August "Dog Days of Summer": Dog Owners Can Save $500!

    "Dog Days of August" is a spay/neuter promotion being offered by the Responsible Pet Ownership Alliance. The promotion offers county dog owners an opportunity to have their dog(s) spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies, microchipped and licensed for just $80 – a savings of more than $500.   • At 2:30 p.m. on July 16, 2017, Santa Barbara County proclaimed a local emergency due to the Whittier Fire and Alamo fires (proclamationpress release).

  • The Assessment Appeals filing period is open from July 3, 2017 through November 30, 2017. Click here for more information on the Assessment Appeals process, mandatory filing fees, and to download the current form.

  • The Santa Barbara County Clerk-Recorder, Assessor announced today that secured property tax value notices for 2017 are available on the County Clerk-Recorder & Assessor website at www.sbcassessor.com. Notices are posted for 130,948 parcels in the County. The Tax Collector Tax will mail tax bills in the fall.  Property factored base year values will be increased by the California Consumer Price Index of 1.2 percent, as mandated by the Revenue and Taxation Code. Property owners who believe that their property is not properly valued are encouraged to contact the Assessor's Office and request an informal review by September 1, 2017. The deadline for filing a formal assessment appeal for the 2017-18 assessment roll is November 30, 2017.
