Junior Ranger Program
DUE TO COVID-19, JUNIOR RANGERS IS SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Join a Santa Barbara County Park Naturalist or Interpretive Volunteer to learn about Cachuma Lake wildlife, environmental stewardship and earn a cool badge. Children under the age of ten must be accompanied by an adult. Adults are also invited to participate.
Ages 3 to 6 may earn an Acorn Woodpecker badge; 7 to 9, a Great Blue Heron badge; 10-11, a Mountain Lion badge; 12 and older, a Bald Eagle badge.
Junior Rangers have a special responsibility to take action in their environment and to set an example for others. Junior Rangers will earn their badges by picking up litter from park grounds and by participating in a fun activity at the Neal Taylor Nature Center, located within the Cachuma Lake Recreation Area. The first assignment is to bring a bag of trash or recycling collected from the park grounds to the Junior Ranger Program.
The Junior Ranger Program runs year-round on most Saturdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and meets outside at the Neal Taylor Nature Center picnic tables. Please be sure to check the Calendar of Events page to see if it is happening. Call (805) 688-4515 for more information. If you have a group of ten or more participants, please call in advance so we can staff the program accordingly.
Cannot make it at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday? Call the Park Naturalist in advance to schedule a Jr. Ranger Program for another day or time (dependent upon availability) or ask about the "Jr. Ranger To-Go" option.
