Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program
The Public Health Preparedness Program goal is to prepare public health, medical and long term care providers in Santa Barbara County for emergencies and disasters. The program also works to assure development and provision of health alerts to providers and appropriate health related risk communication for public health emergencies. To achieve its goal of preparedness for disasters, the program develops plans, provides trainings, and coordinates county-wide disaster exercises with the Santa Barbara County Disaster Healthcare Coalition, cities, and the County Office of Emergency Management. We invite healthcare, long term care, and other agencies that support individuals with access and functional needs, to join the Disaster Healthcare Coalition.
On September 16, 2016 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services adopted final rule for Emergency Preparedness regulations effective November 16, 2016. 17 facility types will be affected by the new regulations which focus on 4 Core Elements of Emergency Preparedness:
- Annual Risk Assessment & Emergency Planning
- Policies & Procedures
- Communication Plan
- Training & Testing
