Public Works Department temporarily closes public permitting counters

To protect the community and our team, the Santa Barbara County Public Works Department has closed all public permitting counters throughout the local health emergency. Instructions for submitting permit applications, plans, and payments are as follows.

County Surveyor:

  • Customers can mail initial project submittals to:

  • Subsequent submittals should be mailed to the address above or emailed to
  • Project reviews will be mailed and emailed to customers.
  • Spatial indexes and map scans are available through the Surveyor Information System (Web GIS)

Water Resources:

  • Customers can drop off plans for Development Review plan check services and can make payments at the Water Resources window.

  • North county permits can be placed in the drop off box, and south county permits can be dropped off through the slot in the door. Applications can be mailed to both offices.
