This morning, detectives served a search warrant in the 200-block of Helena, resulting in the arrest of 26-year-old Jose Alvarez-Fuentes of Goleta for possession of pornographic material of a child (felony).

On May 18, 2020, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD), in conjunction with all other local fire jurisdictions, will declare the beginning of the 2020 High Fire Season period for all areas of Santa Barbara County.

Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) reports an additional 54 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county today. 40 of the new cases are at the Federal Prison Complex in Lompoc, CA. The total number of confirmed cases is 1362 of which 474 have fully recovered.

To clarify essential businesses within the County of Santa Barbara, the County Health Officer Henning Ansorg, M.D. has issued Health Officer Order No. 2020-8.1. This Order will be effective starting 5:00 p.m. (PDT) Friday May 8, 2020 and continuing until 5:00 p.m. (PDT), on May 31, 2020 or until it is extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended in writing by the County of Santa Barbara Health Officer ("Health Officer").

Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting the tenth and eleventh deaths among individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. One individual resided in the City of Lompoc and was in their 60's with underlying health conditions. The other individual was a person incarcerated at the Lompoc Federal prison and was in their 70's with underlying health conditions. As of today, there are 1,032 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Santa Barba County, 582 cases are at the Federal Prison in Lompoc and 450 are community cases and 463 have fully recovered. Today's total number of confirmed cases include an update as a previously reported case was determined not to be a case.
