The goal of the Santa Barbara County Elections Office is to provide accessible polling place facilities, provide information to voters in accessible formats, and encourage participation from all voters through outreach. Santa Barbara County's Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee (VAAC) participates in regular meetings (quarterly in the odd numbered years and semi-annually in the even numbered years) and provides input to help meet these goals.

At the regular meetings, the VAAC will discuss various topics that may include the following:

  • Outreach programs to provide information to voters and encourage participation from all demographics
  • Providing polling place locations that meet the accessibility guidelines set by the State of California
  • Information provided to voters on the Santa Barbara County Elections website and ensuring the information provided is in accessible formats
  • Pending legislation
  • Emerging technologies

A committee will be appointed annually to provide input on items when needed. If you are interested in becoming a member of the committee, please complete the application using the link below and fax, email or mail it to our office. Applications will be collected as received and members will be appointed to the committee at the first meeting of each calendar year. Interested parties must be present to be appointed.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Willing to serve approximately a one year term (committee will be appointed at the first meeting of each calendar year).
  2. Have advocacy, outreach, technology and/or elections experience.
  3. Have understanding of barriers faced by voters with disabilities.

While committee membership is limited to appointment, all meetings are open to the public. All interested voters, advocates, or members of the public are welcome to attend.
