General Information

Santa Barbara County Elections is continually recruiting Election Officers for upcoming elections. Please join us for this rewarding experience! Participation in the Election Officer Program benefits the entire community and fosters a sense of pride in the community.


  1. Must be a registered voter in the State of California or lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States, as specified, and who is otherwise eligible to register to vote, except for his or her lack of United States citizenship.

  2. Must be available to work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. or until all of the closing procedures have been completed.
  3. Must be available to attend a mandatory training class.

COVID-19 Updates

Please be aware, that the Santa Barbara County Elections office continues to remain apprised of the changing situation with COVID-19.

The Santa Barbara County Registrar of Voters is committed to ensuring that voters can exercise their right to vote in a safe, secure and accessible manner during.

All actively registered voters will receive a ballot by mail this election. However, we know that there are circumstances where a voter will need to vote in-person.

Masks are required to be worn by in all indoor locations, per guidance from our local Public Health Officials. This applies to all persons at the polling place including voters and poll workers. Masks will be available to voters and poll workers without one.


Polling Place Supervisor

The Polling Place Supervisor oversees all polling place operations and Elections Officers. They are responsible for coordinating polling place setup and teardown, completing opening and closing procedures, and assigning Election Officers to lunches and breaks. They are also able to assist with any issues, answer procedural questions, and ensure correct procedures are being followed.

Required to attend two training classes and pick up and return supplies.


The Inspector is the lead position at the precinct table, Inspectors are responsible for completing the opening and closing procedures at their precinct and work at one of the positions at the precinct board.

Clerks work one of the stations at the precinct table.

Ballot Reception Clerks

Ballot Reception Clerks work at the ballot reception table.  They are responsible for tallying all returned regular ballots, vote by mail ballots, and provisional ballots.

Traffic Clerk

Traffic Clerks work at Polling Places with two or more precincts or in our busier areas to help direct voters to the correct precinct table and assist voters who request Curbside Voting.
