General Information

Play an active and important role in your community and earn extra money in the process!

Santa Barbara County Elections is continually recruiting Election Officers for upcoming elections. Please join us for this rewarding experience! Participation in the Election Officer Program benefits the entire community and fosters a sense of pride in the community.

Requirements:

  1. Must be a registered voter in the State of California or lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States, as specified, and who is otherwise eligible to register to vote, except for his or her lack of United States citizenship.

  2. Must be available to work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. or until all of the closing procedures have been completed.
  3. Must be available to attend a mandatory training class.

Positions

Field Supervisor (County Employees ONLY)

Field Supervisors have an area of three to six Polling Places and make visits throughout Election Day to assist with any issues, answer procedural questions, and ensure correct procedures are being followed.

Paid $310. Required to attend a 3.5 hour training class plus a 1 hour Field Supervisor specific training and pick up supplies.

Polling Place Coordinator

Polling Place Coordinators collect all ballots throughout Election Day and have other duties relating to the Polling Place.

Paid $240 and required to attend a 2 hour training class and pick up and return supplies.

Inspector

Inspectors supervise a precinct board and work at one of the positions.

Paid $240 and required to attend a 3.5 hour training class and pick up and return supplies.

Clerk

Clerks work one of the stations at the precinct table.

Paid $180 and required to attend a 3.5 hour training class.

Traffic Clerk

Traffic Clerks work at Polling Places with two or more precincts or in our busier areas to help direct voters to the correct precinct table and assist voters who request Curbside Voting.

Paid $180 and required to attend a 2 hour training class.
