NOVEMBER 3, 2020 PRESIDENTIAL GENERAL ELECTION - MUNICIPAL MEASURES CONSOLIDATION CALENDAR OF EVENTS AND DEADLINES

For City Initiatives or Measures


City Elections Official to notify County Elections of potential measures to be placed on the ballot:

Time to be determined by filing or action.

Upon the receipt of a filing of the publication affidavit required by Election Code Section 9206, please notify the County Elections Official that proponents are circulating a petition in your jurisdiction for placement on the ballot. 

If a City is seeking to place a measure on the ballot in accordance with Elections Code Section 9122, please notify the County Elections Official no later than the commencement of the preparation of the first reading of the proposed measure.



Suggested Deadline for City to submit petitions to County Elections Official for review.

Suggested Deadline for City to adopt ordinance without changes or order the election at which the measure will be placed on the ballot:

7/19/2020 – 8/21/2020 E-107 to E-74

Suggested time frame for the City to notice the election, accept arguments and hold the public exam for arguments in order to meet the Election Official's deadline for the submission of measure information to the printer for inclusion in the County Voter Information Guide.  The City should submit items to the County as they have cleared public exam in order to allow time for the County to prepare and proof the materials.

Deadline to file with the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors the original and eight (8) copies of the resolution requesting consolidation with the election.  Resolution must contain the full text of the measure and the exact form of the question as it will appear on the ballot.  Please contact the Clerk of the Board and the Elections Office contact if you need to file on August 7.



Deadline for City to Request Consolidation of Measure on the November Ballot.

Board of Supervisors to approve the request for the City's request for consolidation with the election.



Election Official's Deadline for Submission of Local Measure Information to Printer:

8/24/2020* E-71

Submission of ballot/sample ballot material to printer by County Elections Official.


* If the deadline falls on a Sunday, the deadline moves to Monday.


IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CITIES:

Cities are responsible for setting the calendar for their city measures and receiving the items above.  Therefore, the last day for cities to request consolidation is 88 days before an election. Please note:  The deadline for submittal of items to the printer is firm.  Therefore, if the City is unable to meet this deadline they will be responsible for preparing and mailing materials for their measure to their voters.
