Assembly Bill 2238 – Names
The Governor recently signed into law Assembly Bill 2238 (Chapter 621 of the Statutes of 2002), which further restricts information that can be posted on the Internet. Existing Government Code section 6254.21 prohibits any state or local agency from posting the home address or telephone number of any elected or appointed official (or their family) on the Internet without first obtaining the written permission of that individual. Effective January 1, 2003, Chapter 621 amends section 6254.21 to extend this prohibition to "public safety officials" (and their family).
Due to the difficulty of identifying all such officials (and their families) and duly removing their names and addresses from the internet enabled databases our subscriber based data applications will no longer be available as of December 31, 2002.
The Grantor-Grantee Index for searching official records is available to the public without the need for a subscriber password.
You may still access data at the front lobby machines at any of our offices in North or South County that contain the ownership information.
