The Clerk-Recorder recently digitized the Water Claims Book from 1877 to 1918.
The project also includes restoration of the book to de-acidify the pages. Acidity is the major cause of paper deterioration and must be dealt with if the records are to be preserved. From 1850 - 1993, wood pulp paper was used for record keeping. It is extremely acidic and unstable. Once the pages are de-acidified the pages will be encapsulated so they protected from wear and tear.
