Qualifying Life Event-Outside of Open Enrollment
Qualifying life events may happen anytime of the year. When certain event occur, you can make appropriate changes to your coverage.
Examples of some of the qualifying life events that would qualify.
- Medicare Eligibility
- Birth or adoption of a baby or child
- Loss of other healthcare coverage, does not include private plans
- Eligibility for new healthcare coverage
- Marriage or Divorce
Please Note: Qualifying event changes must be processed within 30 days of the event date.
Santa Barbara County Employees' Retirement System reminder: birth, death, marriage, and divorce may impact who you list as your retirement account beneficiary. Keeping your beneficiary up to date is important both pre-retirement, and after retirement. There are a number of different refund, lump sum, or continuance options that may be available to your qualified beneficiary, and we want to ensure we honor your wishes. It is important to inform SBCERS of life changes ensure your retirement account is accurate.
