The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has developed online, narrated training tools to assist staff, contractors, vendors and volunteers better understand our operations, our code of ethics, our Compliance Program/Compliance Plan and our Privacy Practices.

The Public Health Department Compliance Program training describes the infrastructure we have put into effect to address issues of Compliance. The training references our Compliance Plan that describes how we address regulatory issues, our code of ethics, activities to reduce our risks, and methods to report issues of non-compliance.

The Public Health Department is very concerned about ensuring that information concerning our patient's care and their identifying information is secure and properly safeguarded. This training provides information on requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. The training also covers recent changes to HIPAA as part of the Affordable Care Act commonly referred to as the Omnibus Rule.
